In a recent clash between Mizo and Meitei ethnic groups in Kangvai, Manipur, a 21-year-old Kuki youth named Nehtinsat Haokip found himself caught in the crossfire and seriously injured on July 7, 2023. Responding to the distress call from his fellow tribals, Nehtinsat Haokip selflessly rushed to their aid, only to be shot by the Meiteis while unarmed.
Sustaining severe gunshot wounds to his left arm, chest, and left lung, Nehtinsat Haokip’s chances of survival seemed uncertain. However, help arrived in the form of the Indigenous Tribals Leader Forum (ITLF), who reached out to the Central Young Mizo Association (YMA) for assistance.
The Central YMA promptly facilitated Nehtinsat Haokip’s transfer to Aizawl Civil Hospital for immediate medical attention. Recognizing the need for specialized treatment, the YMA further arranged for his transfer to NEIGRIHMS in Shillong.
Displaying their commitment to aiding Nehtinsat Haokip’s recovery, the Central YMA provided flight tickets and ₹30,000/- in financial assistance for him and his uncle. Upon their arrival at Umroi Airport, the YMA Ambulance team warmly welcomed them and swiftly transported them to NEIGRIHMS Hospital for continued medical care.
