Indian OS aims to compete with iOS and Android

Government officials, IT companies and academia are working on an initiative to develop a mobile operating system for India called IndOS. According to reports, a high-ranking government source has revealed that, in addition to providing a safer experience, this new Indian operating system will also provide users with more options and give a healthy competition to tech giants like Google and Apple. This number of aspects makes this a fascinating development

Google’s Android has a market share of over 97 percent, compared to Apple’s iOS, which has a very modest share. The government initially called it IndOS, according to the source. Either Google or original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) should take the lead in implementing new safety measures for users when side loading apps. According to the reports, a high-ranking government official in India has stated that the organization’s ultimate goal is the development of a trustworthy mobile OS.

Security has consistently been an issue for Android phone makers, according to the report. Since Android is Google’s product, the mobile maker company trusts Google with the security responsibility whereas the role of a mobile device manufacturer is limited to device production and customer support

According to the sources, Android phone manufacturers think that users would feel more safe and secure with a “Desi” Android OS. There is speculation that Google’s anti-competitive practices could result in it being forced later to change its Android model. At the moment, Google is giving Android OS away for free to OEMs in exchange for having their services and apps pre-installed on every Android smartphone
