Aizawl Police Strike Blow Against Drug Cartel with Massive Methamphetamine Seizure Worth Rs. 10.4 Crores
In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, the Mizoram police have seized a staggering 5.2 kilograms of Methamphetamine worth Rs. 10.4 crores in the international market. The raid, conducted by the Aizawl district special branch, was born in the Laipuitlang area of Aizawl based on credible information. As a result, a 42-year-old woman peddler identified as Maria Lalrotluangi has been apprehended and booked under the relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The state government’s initiative “Ruihhlo Do” or “War on Drugs” has been making significant strides in combating the drug menace in the state. The Core Committee on Ruihhlo Do, formed by the state government in May last year, has worked tirelessly towards this goal. A working committee was also formed involving various departments, NGOs, and a church body under the leadership of Lalriawma to further assist in the matter. In addition, at the district level, task forces were created under respective deputy commissioners to combat the issue.
Mizoram has been grappling with drug trafficking for a long time, and the state government’s proactive measures to curb this menace are commendable. With the seizure of such a massive quantity of drugs, the police have dealt a severe blow to the drug cartel in the state. Moreover, the success of this operation sends out a clear message that the state government’s “Ruihhlo Do” initiative is committed to eradicating drug trafficking from the region.
