Assam Rifles and Police Joint Operation Yields Major Drug Bust in Assam and Mizoram

In a joint operation conducted by the Radhanagar Battalion of Assam Rifles and Jirighat Police Station, a significant breakthrough was achieved in the fight against illegal drug trafficking. The operation, carried out on July 3, resulted in the apprehension of an individual in possession of 276.1 grams of heroin in the Lalpani area of Cachar District, Assam. The estimated value of the seized drugs is a staggering Rs. 1.1 crore.

Furthermore, Assam Rifles (East) continued its relentless efforts in combating illicit activities in Mizoram. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a separate operation in the Melbuk area of Zokhawthar led to the recovery of 150 bags of illegal Areca nuts and 33 grams of heroin. The total value of the confiscated contraband was estimated to be Rs. 1.07 crore.

In both operations, the apprehended individuals and the seized items were promptly handed over to the respective authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings. The Jirighat Police Station assumed responsibility for the case in Assam, while the Customs Department in Zokhawthar, along with the Police Station Champhai, took charge of the Mizoram operation.
