Cachar Police Conducts Successful Special Operation, Seizes Large Quantity of Suspected Burmese Betel Nut
In a commendable display of efficiency, the Cachar Police recently executed a special operation in the district, leading to the recovery of a staggering 2990 kilograms of suspected Burmese betel nut. Acting swiftly, law enforcement officers also seized two vehicles, identified as NL01AF7617 and AS25CC9209, believed to be involved in the illicit trade.
Two individuals were also taken into custody in the operation that resulted in the bust, which was carried out in the past 24 hours. The accused are currently in police custody, and for the time being, their identity is being withheld as the police continue to investigate the matter further.
This achievement comes on the heels of another recent triumph by law enforcement. Just last month, on the 29th of April, in the Badarpur area of Karimganj district, over 2000 kilograms of smuggled Burmese betel nuts, also known as Burmese supari, were intercepted from a truck. The driver of the vehicle was promptly arrested.
Burmese betel nut, a popular chewing substance, has been a concern due to its illegal trafficking across borders. The Cachar Police’s diligent efforts have dealt a significant blow to the illegal trade network, ensuring that such contraband does not reach unsuspecting consumers.
