Intel leak hints at Windows 12 support for next-gen CPUs

One Twitter user’s disclosure has piqued the interest of the IT community at large. According to the source, Microsoft’s projected next major operating system, Windows 12, will be compatible with Intel’s next 14th-generation Meteor Lake-S desktop CPUs.

The original leak was released on Twitter by user @leaf hobby, who has a history of releasing accurate information on Intel’s Xeon processors. The leaks indicated that Windows 12 is listed as a compatible OS for the Meteor Lake-S architecture. A few people were able to screencap the tweet before it was deleted. Now, a second prominent Twitter user (@The Galox_) has tweeted confirmation of this news.

After Windows 11 in late 2021, Windows 12 is expected to be Microsoft’s next major upgrade. The next version of Windows might include improved compatibility with Android apps, built-in artificial intelligence, a revamped user interface, updated icons and animations, and much more.

Intel’s new line of desktop CPUs, called Meteor Lake-S, is scheduled to debut in late 2023 or early 2024. To maximize performance while minimizing power consumption, Meteor Lake-S will employ a hybrid design. The new 7nm manufacturing technology that will be used in Intel’s Meteor Lake-S should improve performance and efficiency.
