Mizoram Ensures Safety Amid Meiteis’ Departure Amidst Cautionary Message

In Mizoram, a sense of tranquility has been disrupted as a considerable number of Meiteis have left via Lengpui airport, prompted by a cautionary message from an ex-insurgent group. Despite reassurances from the Mizoram Home Commissioner and Secretary, concerns about safety linger, leading some Meiteis to seek refuge elsewhere.

On July 22, 79 individuals departed Lengpui airport, with flights to Guwahati and Imphal reaching full capacity, highlighting the gravity of the situation. Meiteis prefer scheduled ATR flights connecting Imphal and Aizawl four days a week, accommodating around 60 passengers per trip.

The Meiteis’ departure is linked to organizations’ request, urging them to leave Mizoram due to ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur. However, some Meiteis choose to remain despite the advisory.

The Mizoram government is committed to ensuring Meiteis’ safety and security, with no reported incidents of harm or violence towards any community. The ex-militant group, PAMRA, clarified their intent was cautionary, not coercive. Meetings with representatives of the All Mizoram Manipuri Association have been held to provide necessary reassurances.
