For increasing traffic in Silchar town, Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Memorial Interest Council submitted a memonrandum to the DC-SP to take appropriate measures to solve the problem. In this, several memorandums has been given to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Cachar district by the Council. A copy of the memorandum was also sent to the DIG of the police.
A memorandum signed by Haran Dey, President of the Council and a senior journalist, said that the citizens were frustrated by the traffic jam. Ambulance patients also suffer. As a result, it has become urgent to solve the traffic congestion problem. A number of suggestions have also been made by the council. These include arranging zebra crossings on city streets, relocating private schools out of the city, and designating specific lanes for vehicular traffic.
