Silchar News Today | A young man from Mizoram died in an accident at Sonabarighat while coming to see Pujo

A youth died in a road accident while coming to Silchar from Mizoram for Durga Puja. Two more people were seriously injured. The incident took place in Sonabarighat on Sunday night on Mahapanchami around 11:30 pm. The youth’s name is Pintu Das.

According to eyewitnesses, the young man named Pintu Das was killed in a collision between Royal Enfield and a KTM bike. Both the bikes were speeding towards Aizawl. The Enfield accidentally took a U-turn towards Sonai Road and collided with the KTM bike coming from behind. There were 3 people in the Enfield bike. They fell into a pillar after colliding with the KTM bike. The biker Pintu Das passed away on the spot. One of the other two broke his leg. The other young man was also injured. The injured were identified as Shivam and Arup Dey.

Meanwhile, the two KTM riders escaped unhurt. After witnessing the incident, the locals rushed to the spot, rescued them, called an ambulance, and sent three people to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Upon receiving the news of the accident, the police of the Rangirkhari outpost reached the spot. The two bikes involved in the accident were taken to the Rangirkhari outpost.

Meanwhile, the locals have expressed serious concern over the frequent road accidents in the Sonabarighat area. So far 3 people have died in the accidents at Sonabarighat in two months. So the locals have demanded to install speed breakers on the national highways to prevent accidents.

According to sources, the deceased Pintu Das was born in Mizoram. His family lives in Mizoram for business. He had come to visit a relative’s house on Sonai Road to see Pujo. That night he left for Silchar with two more friends on bike. Pintu died in the accident before reaching the relative’s house. It is learned that Pintu’s parents reached Silchar on Monday morning.
