Roads blocked in Ambicapatty, amid cries of foul after youth dies through electrocution
Ambicapatty, Silchar: In another showcase of breakdown of law and order, the traffic blockage across the whole of Ambicapatty has shown another example of the lax law and order situation in the city. The situation arose after the dead body of a, as yet unnamed, youth was set in the middle of the road by his family members as part of their protest.
According to sources close to the event, the family had a electrical malfunction in their house and had complained to the appropriate authorities regarding the same in several occasions. However, no action from the concerned bodies were taken. This morning, while trying to switch on the electrical water pump, the youth was electrocuted and later passed away in the unfortunate incident.
Distraught family members of the deceased, finally decided to showcase their protest against the perceived injustices by laying the body outside of the Punyapal Road near Ambicapatty Point. The situation still remains strenuous despite Police presence in the area.
The incident has caused kilometres long traffic jam in the already deteriorating roads of the area. Motorcycles and cycles on the footpaths have disrupted pedestrian traffic as well. As of the writing of this article, even by-lanes are getting blocked.
This just goes to show issues like the apathy of those that can prevent incidents, the lack of institutions with high degree of perceived trust where citizens can take their grievances and a lack of commitment towards the enforcement of law and order.
