The superintendent of police of Assam’s Cachar district suspended the Inspector in-Charge of Bihara on 7th February 2023 for failing to perform his duty. The accused, arrested in an alleged domestic violence case, killed himself after escaping from the police station.
According to the sources, the policeman is identified as Subarna Das, and the accused as Jamir Uddin. Reportedly, Jamir was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife.
The policeman, Subarna Das, received charges of lapse in security, letting the accused escape jail. Cachar Superintendent of Police, Shri NumalMahatta, ordered the suspension of Subarna Das.
Previously, a similar case came to light where the officer in charge of Bengtol Police Outpost in the Chirang district of Assam was suspended in connection with a rape case.
According to the sources, the policeman allegedly was biased in the case. The woman was a victim of sexual assault and abuse. She reached the police to file a complaint. However, the sub-inspector (SI), Afzal Hussain of Bengtol, allegedly mocked her instead of investigating the case.
The victim later sought help from the media, and in no time, the news got quite some attention in the region. Viewing the situation, the Chirang SP immediately issued suspension orders against the officer.
