In a devastating incident today, a group of eight policemen from Karimganj police station in Assam sustained severe injuries in a road accident on Silchar’s outskirts. The incident took place in the Ramnagar area, leaving the law enforcement officers in critical condition.
The unfortunate mishap unfolded as the eight policemen and two undertrial prisoners were en route to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Tragically, while travelling in a Sumo vehicle, the driver collided with a stationary truck from behind, causing significant damage to the police vehicle.
Providing details of the incident, Karimganj SP PP Das disclosed that two injured policemen were in critical condition and receiving intensive medical care in the ICU at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The remaining wounded officers were also undergoing treatment for their injuries.
Fortunately, the two undertrial prisoners were promptly rescued from the accident scene, ensuring their safety. However, the driver of the police vehicle fled from the spot after the accident. This has led to an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Local authorities and emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, providing necessary assistance to the injured police officers. The Silchar Medical College and Hospital immediately activated their trauma response team, ensuring the injured officers received prompt medical attention.
