The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the highly anticipated World Test Championship final against Australia. Rohit Sharma, known for his explosive batting, will make his overseas Test captaincy debut, leading the Indian team onto the field at The Oval in England.
The selection committee, headed by Chetan Sharma, also made a significant recall by including Ajinkya Rahane in the Test side. Rahane, known for his calm and composed demeanour, returns to the squad after more than a year. His experience and leadership skills will provide valuable support to Sharma in the challenging encounter.
However, the absence of dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and premier fast bowler JaspritBumrah from the final squad are huge setbacks for the Indian team. The BCCI decided to leave out Pant and Bumrah, who were not named in the initial selection announced in April, because of their respective injuries from which they are not yet recovered fully.
Adding depth to the team, pace-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who missed the Australia series due to his wedding commitments, has been included in the squad. Furthermore, Ruturaj Gaikwad, initially named as one of the standby players, had to withdraw from the squad due to his own wedding. In his place, promising youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal has been drafted as a reserve player.
