Scrutiny around the team selection for the second T20 match for the India team against South Africa is still going strong, with many balking at some of the choices made.
One of the most surprising decisions taken by the team management and the captain, Suryakumar Yadav, was the exclusion of Ravi Bishnoi, who had just climbed up to the No. 1 in the ICC T20 bowlers rankings, from the playing XI. Others among the benched players included Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer.
While this could be a part of the rotation policy to get players like Jitesh Sharma and Tilak Varma game time during this series. However, experts have questioned the move seeking clarity on why winning is not the first priority for the team. Former players of the game like Gautam Gambhir, Piyush Chawla and Sanjay Manjrekar were among many that have publicly voiced their confusion over the team selection.
This criticism was only exacerbated when the South African team chased down the revised target of 152 in the rain affected game inside 15 overs. While batting, the Indian team put up a total of 180/7 with three balls to when rain interrupted the play.
With players like Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar going for the runs, fans and experts alike missed the presence of someone like Bishnoi, who has been in great form recently.
