Review of BMI of 1,884 police personnel starts at Assam’s Jorhat, Silchar and Guwahati

The police in Assam began testing the body mass index (BMI) of officers who are too heavy. These second-time tests began on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 in the cities of Jorhat, Silchar and Guwahati, where 1,884 police personnel are to be tested.
In August 2023, all the police did their first BMI, where police director G.P. Singh was the first one to do it to show others how it’s done. 70,161 police personnel were tested, among which around 1,748 had a BMI of 30+.
Singh mentioned that through this new test he wants to check if people who failed the previous test and were once thought to be too heavy have become more fit in the three months since then.

The BMI tests from the previous year were the first step towards a big plan to make the group stronger and healthier. Singh said that though some changes are made for health issues like thyroid problems, those who still don’t reach goals after re-testing might have to stop working on their own.
Besides, the idea for cops being fit comes from the big boss. He aims to strike out the officers who are always drunk, overweight, and dishonest. Singh emphasized on making the Assam Police faster and better in all ways possible.
