Entire Team Breaks Down In Tears Following WC Final Defeat; Dravid Ends Stint as the Head Coach
Indian players breaking down in the dressing room after the loss to Australia in the Cricket World Cup Final was a though thing to watch according to coach Rahul Dravid.
The finals began on a sour note for India as they lost three early wickets, however, the pressure to rebuild the innings fell on the dependable pair of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. However, losing regular wickets through out the innings meant that the team settled on a below par score of 240 on the challenging surface which never seemed enough.
In the second innings, though, as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami worked their magic to dismiss David Warner, Mithcell Marsh and Steve Smith early to restrict Australia to 47/3, hopes were pinned on the bowling line-up that had been exceptional in the lead up to the finals throughout the tournament.
However, the pair of Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head steadied the Australian ship to put on a mammoth 192-run partnership to guide their team to their sixth World Cup title, breaking a billion hearts in the process. This comes as more a shock, given that the Indian team had rolled through all their opponents, including the Aussies through the round robin stage and were considered the overwhelming favourites coming into the match.
But as fate would have it, the team capitulated in the match that matters the most marking the third time in as many World Cups that the team reached the knockouts of the tournament but failed to win the title. Seeing Mohammad Siraj, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in tears, while Virat Kohli hides his tears under his cap was heartbreaking for fans all over.
To add to this, Coach Rahul Dravid’s two-year contract as the head coach has also come to an end after the World Cup and leaving on such a bitter sweet not would be tough for him as well. While it is still not certain whether he would renew his coaching role again, for now the good byes are sure to be painful.
