Dibrugarh District Hit by Second Massive Hailstorm in a Week

Dibrugarh, Assam – Almost 67 villages in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district was hit by a massive hailstorm on Sunday evening, causing extensive damage to property and uprooting big trees. The situation is still developing, and officials have warned that the number of affected villages may increase.

Electric poles were damaged in many areas of Dibrugarh town, disrupting the power supply to many residents. However, repair work is underway to resume electric services, and relief materials have been dispatched to the affected families.

No casualties have been reported, but one person sustained minor injuries in the Chabua revenue circle, and many houses were damaged in the Moran revenue circle. This is the second time in a week that a massive hailstorm has hit Dibrugarh.

The hailstorm has left many people homeless; some have taken shelter in other areas, while others have made makeshift shelters with the tarpaulins distributed by the Dibrugarh district administration. The local administration is working tirelessly to assist the affected families.

The hailstorm has caused widespread damage to crops and livestock, and the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed. The local authorities have requested the state government for additional assistance to help with the relief efforts.

“We are doing everything possible to assist the affected families. We have dispatched relief materials and are working to restore power supply to the affected areas,” said a senior official from the Dibrugarh district administration.

The hailstorm has caused significant disruption to the lives of the people in Dibrugarh, and the local authorities are urging everyone to take necessary precautions and stay safe. The situation is closely monitored, and additional relief measures will be taken as required.
