Renowned Pakistani Snooker Player Majid Ali Commits Suicide, Battling Depression

Renowned Pakistani snooker player Majid Ali tragically took his own life at the age of 28 in his hometown of Samundri near Faisalabad, Punjab. Battling depression since his playing days, Majid used a wood-cutting machine to end his life.

With a notable presence in international events, Majid represented Pakistan and achieved a commendable ranking within the national snooker circuit. This devastating loss follows the recent death of snooker player Muhammad Bilal due to a cardiac arrest, marking a second blow to the snooker community within a month.

Majid’s brother disclosed that he had been grappling with depression since his teenage years, and it had recently resurfaced, leading to this tragic decision. Expressing grief over Majid’s passing, the Chairman of Pakistan Billiards and Snooker, Alamgir Sheikh, emphasized his talent and potential to bring glory to Pakistan.

While financial issues were not reported as a contributing factor, it is a stark reminder of the importance of mental health support within sports communities.

Snooker in Pakistan has gained significant prominence, with players such as Muhammad Yousuf and Muhammad Asif securing World and Asian Championship titles, and some even transitioning to the professional circuit.
