Assam DGP Dismisses Police Inspector for Misconduct; Emphasizes Safety of Police Stations and Citizens
Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, has taken swift and strict action by dismissing Inspector (UB) Biman Roy from Assam Police following an objectionable incident. Expressing his dismay on Twitter, DGP Singh underscored the importance of police stations as safe havens for citizens and stressed the integrity of Assam Police.
Inspector Biman Roy stands accused of allegedly taking an objectionable photo of a minor girl and subjecting her to harassment in the presence of other officials inside the lock-up at Ghograpar Police Station in Nalbari.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. DGP Singh assured the public that the strongest lawful action would be taken if the accused is found guilty. Furthermore, he directed DIG CWR Brajenjit Singh to visit the police station and submit a report for firsthand information.
The victim alleged that the Sub-Inspector forced her to undress, took nude photos, and made obscene gestures. She also claimed that a woman police official instructed her to remain silent about the incident.
The Nalbari Police acted promptly, registering the complaint and initiating an investigation against the accused police officer.
