Amid mounting tensions following a communal clash between two communities, the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty, paid a visit to the troubled Panchayat Road. Expressing his concern over the untoward incident, MLA Chakraborty wished “Eid Mubarak” to the locals and condemned the violence that took place earlier in the day.
Emphasizing the importance of justice, Chakraborty assured the residents that the police are diligently investigating the matter and would ensure that justice is served. While the MLA distanced himself from the legal proceedings, he expressed his willingness to mediate and resolve the issue amicably by facilitating discussions between the involved parties.
In a move to foster community development and promote productive activities, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty announced a sanctioned sum of Rs 5 lakh for the Panchayat Road Jame Masjid committee. This fund will be utilized to construct a community hall that can serve as a multipurpose space for educational endeavours and other beneficial initiatives. He has also announced an additional Rs. 50,000 in his personal capacity for immediate repair works for the Mosque.
Dipayan Chakraborty, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Silchar constituency in the 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election.
