Communal Tensions Flare in Silchar as Muslim Family Attacked, Police Investigate

A peace meeting called by the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar failed to influence significant calmness after a Muslim family became the target of a horrifying attack in Silchar last night. The incident occurred near E&D Colony in Tarapur, leaving the community in a state of shock and distress.

According to the police complaint, Noor Islam Laskar, his wife Zamira Begum Laskar, and their daughter Ayesha Laskar were exposed to a storm of verbal abuse and stones thrown at their vehicle while returning from the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The vicious assault resulted in injuries for two of the members.

In reaction to this act of violence, the police initiated an inquiry into the incident immediately. Five members of the Bajrang Dal have been detained for their suspected participation in the incident.

Local officials, however, are advising the people to avoid spreading rumours and unconfirmed information, underlining the significance of preserving communal cohesion during these delicate times.
