The Supreme Court Collegium, commanded by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, has recommended the appointment of two esteemed judges, Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and S. Venkatanarayana Bhatti, as Supreme Court justices. Since August 2022, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has not been represented on the Supreme Court bench, so this decision is a welcome step towards resolving the issue.
Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, currently serving as Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, is well-known for his expertise in tax law and previously served as a judge on the Bombay High Court. The collegium acknowledged his exceptional domain expertise, integrity reputation, and commendable competence.
Similarly, Justice S. Venkatanarayana Bhatti, the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, has been lauded for his prowess in numerous areas of the law. He has also served on the Andhra Pradesh High Court as a justice.
The collegium’s resolution, available on the Supreme Court’s official website, reflects a unanimous decision in favour of appointing Justices Bhuyan and Bhatti.
