Adipurush amends Sita’s birthplace dialogue after controversy in Nepal

In a recent turn of events, the highly anticipated film Adipurush has faced criticism from Balen Shah, the 15th mayor of Kathmandu, for a controversial dialogue suggesting that Goddess Sita is the “daughter of India.” The statement triggered a debate regarding the portrayal of Sita’s origin and the subsequent impact on the screening of Hindi films in Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Balen Shah firmly asserted that unless the dialogue is considered true in both Nepal and India, no Hindi films would be allowed to be screened in the city. This demand prompted the makers of Adipurush to take swift action, reportedly removing or modifying the contentious dialogue to address the concerns raised.

According to Hindu mythology, Sita’s birthplace is Janakpur, which is located in present-day Nepal. This discrepancy highlights the differing interpretations and beliefs about Sita’s origin within various cultural and religious contexts.

Adipurush, an epic action-drama retelling of the Ramayana, features Prabhas and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles, supported by talented actors Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh, and DevdattaNage. The film, directed and written by Om Raut, has turned out to be one of the most costly films ever made in India.

Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu languages, Adipurush aims to captivate audiences with its grand scale and compelling storytelling. However, the controversy surrounding the dialogue serves as a reminder of the delicate balance required when dealing with religious and cultural sentiments in artistic creations.
