All Assam Manipuri Youths’ Association Withdraws Proposed Economic Blockade on Assam-Mizoram Highway
In a significant development, the All Assam Manipuri Youths’ Association (AAMYA) has announced the withdrawal of their proposed indefinite economic blockade on NH 54, the vital highway connecting Assam and Mizoram at Lailapur in Cachar district. The AAMYA had initially planned the blockade in response to the Mizo National Front’s (MNF) support for a separate administrative structure for the Chin-Kuki-Zo people in Manipur.
After receiving special requests from various intellectuals within the Manipuri society in Assam and taking into consideration the greater interest of society, the AAMYA decided to retract the blockade. They have expressed their commitment to pursuing their objectives through democratic means and have shown a willingness to engage in discussions with the administration in the future.
The withdrawal of the blockade has brought immense relief to the residents and commuters who heavily rely on NH 54 for trade, transportation, and daily commutes. Further discussions and negotiations between the AAMYA, the Government of Mizoram, and the Mizo National Front may be necessary to address these issues adequately.
