Javed Miandad Calls for Cricket Reciprocity: Pakistan Should Boycott India Until BCCI Allows India to Tour Pakistan
Former Pakistan cricket captain, Javed Miandad, has aired his opinion on the deteriorating cricketing ties between India and Pakistan. Miandad remarked that Pakistan should refrain from travelling to India for cricket matches, including the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, unless the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decides to reciprocate by sending their team to Pakistan.
Highlighting the significance of bilateral cooperation, Miandad believes it is India’s turn to tour Pakistan since Pakistan has previously visited India. He personally expressed his unwillingness to play any match in India, including the World Cup. Miandad emphasized that Pakistan’s cricketing prowess is strong enough to sustain itself even without matches in India.
Advocating for the separation of sports from politics, Miandad believes that cricket has the power to bring countries closer and resolve misunderstandings. However, bilateral cricket ties between India and Pakistan have been suspended since 2008 due to political tensions.
The recent decision to hold the Asia Cup in a hybrid model, with matches in both Pakistan and Sri Lanka, reflects India’s refusal to play in Pakistan. The Pakistani government will determine whether the team can travel to India for the ODI World Cup.
