In a significant move towards strengthening forensic sciences, healthcare, and diagnostics, the Government of Assam has recently signed two Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with the prestigious Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) in Hyderabad.
The first MoU focuses on enhancing the capabilities of the Directorate of Forensic Science in Assam through training and skill development programs. The collaboration aims to equip forensic science officials with advanced techniques, particularly in DNA profiling for human identification. The state envisions a crime-free and secure society by improving expertise in evidence collection, handling, transportation, and quality control.
The second MoU centres around healthcare and diagnostic services. It paves the way for joint research programs and collaboration between the Assam Government’s faculty members and CDFD. This partnership holds the potential for groundbreaking advancements in the field, benefitting not only the scientific community but also aspiring students.
Expressing his gratitude, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the government’s commitment to upgrading forensic science infrastructure. He highlighted the forthcoming Guwahati Campus of the National Forensic Science University as a testament to this endeavour.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister envisions the establishment of a CDFD Center in Assam, which would cater to the needs of other northeastern states and countries in Southeast Asia.
The signing ceremony was attended by distinguished government officials, including Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur, Director General of Police GP Singh, and Science and Technology Minister Keshab Mahanta.
