Badruddin Ajmal, the leader of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and a senior member of parliament, has issued a challenge to Assamese youngsters to compete with members of the “Miya” clan in an agricultural competition. The objective of Ajmal’s challenge is to promote unity and fraternity between the ‘Miya’ and ‘Asomiya’ groups in Assam, pushing them to collaborate for a successful future.
Ajmal’s comments were a response to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who had earlier linked increased vegetable costs in Guwahati to the dominance of ‘Miya’ merchants. Sarma urged Assamese youngsters to join actively in the workforce, promising employment chances such as reserving the market below the flyover for Assamese males.
Ajmal condemned Sarma, though, for potentially instigating violence with his words and causing discord among the groups. Ajmal underlined the need of peaceful cohabitation, rejecting prejudice and seeking to unify the Miya and Asomiya groups for the common advancement of Assam.
