The downpour, which commenced late Tuesday night and continued throughout Wednesday morning, caused flooding in low-lying areas such as Ambikapatty and Church Road, exposing the grim reality of clogged sewers.
Local authorities have acknowledged the severity of the situation, emphasizing the need for urgent action. However, they lamented the need for more financial resources to initiate clearing work on Rangirkhal, the town’s main sewage canal, and other canals under their jurisdiction. Reports indicate that these waterways have become blocked with trash, deposited waste, and silt, exacerbating flooding.
