In a thrilling display of chess prowess, Magnus Carlsen, the reigning world champion, emerged victorious at the 2023 SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz chess tournament. Carlsen’s remarkable performance in the Blitz segment secured him the title, scoring an impressive 26 points out of a possible 36.

Indian prodigy D Gukesh showcased his exceptional skills, finishing fifth overall, a remarkable achievement for the young Grandmaster. Gukesh’s rise was marked by his triumph over Viswanathan Anand, an Indian chess legend, not once but twice. Their encounters in both the Rapid and Blitz segments exhibited Gukesh’s growing dominance.

The tournament, consisting of 9 rounds of rapid and 18 rounds of Blitz, attracted an array of elite players from around the globe. Ian Nepomniachtchi secured a strong second-place finish, while Fabiano Caruana claimed third, and Alireza Firouzja secured the fourth spot.
