In the run-up to the Biennial General Meeting (BGM) of the Silchar District Sports Association (DSA), the spotlight is on the overwhelming presence of politicians in the voter’s list. The list reveals a notable influence from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies, as well as some prominent opposition leaders from the Trinamool Congress and Congress.
This revelation has raised concerns that the BJP, seeking to expand its control, is strategically manoeuvring to grasp power within the traditionally Congress-dominated Silchar DSA. By fielding heavyweight candidates and exerting its influence over smaller clubs, the BJP aims to secure a stronghold in the district’s sports body.
However, amidst this political tussle, internal rifts within the BJP itself may inadvertently work in favour of the incumbent president, Babul Hore, and his loyalists, who align with the Congress and Co.
The voter’s list includes names of life members, ex-office bearers, various category-wise clubs, and educational institutions, along with their corresponding number of votes. This comprehensive list sheds light on the extent of political involvement and the potential impact it may have on the upcoming BGM.
