Tamil Nadu Calls for Ban on “The Kerala Story” Over Sensitive Content: Shabana Azmi and Kangana Ranaut Exchange Words on Twitter

In recent news, “The Kerala Story” has sparked controversy in Tamil Nadu for its portrayal of the recruitment of women by the Islamic State (IS). The film’s trailer claimed that 32,000 women were recruited by the terrorist organization in Kerala over the years, which has led to calls for a ban on the film.

However, veteran actress Shabana Azmi has come out to defend the film and criticized those calling for its ban. Azmi argues that the film is a work of fiction and should be viewed as such.

Kangana Ranaut, another Bollywood actress in the limelight for her political and social stances, has supported Azmi’s position. However, she disagreed with Shabana Azmi’s comparison between the Kerala Story and Lal Singh Chadha. Kangana clarified that nobody was calling for a ban on “Laal Singh Chadha”, a Bollywood film starring Aamir Khan that is a remake of the Hollywood classic “Forrest Gump.” In contrast, the same is not the case with Kerala Story.

The director of “The Kerala Story”, Sudipto Sen, defended the film, stating that it’s based on research and interviews with individuals impacted by IS recruitment in Kerala.
