The latest season of Koffee with Karan just premiered on Disney+ Hotstar at Midnight on the 26th of October with a band. The guests for the blockbuster celebrity chat show were the Bollywood power couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. The show took a serious and potent turn when Karan asked Deepika, who has been a vocal advocate for mental health, about her own struggles and fight with depression, and in response, Karan also opened up about his issues.
Karan, who hosts the show, mentioned that his most recent tryst with a depressive episode was during the launch of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in April. Karan related this to his experience of seeing Deepika break down in tears in front of him during a helicopter ride with Farhan Akhtar while returning from Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday party in Alibaug.
Karan recalled that he could not empathise with what Deepika felt at the time as he had no personal experience. However, once he went through the same during the launch event, he could understand it much better. Karan further added to a shocked Ranveer that during this episode, his hands were shaking, and he was sweating profusely; it was Varun Dhawan who came in and held his hand.
Varun went a step above and beyond and took Karan to a separate room and practiced some breathing exercises with him. “I got out of my long and elaborate jacket and I left in half an hour. I just went to my bed and I wept. I just cried and I didn’t know why I was crying,” Karan added.
Deepika then detailed her story as well and how it led to the launch of her Live Love Laugh foundation, which works towards spreading awareness of mental health.
