Prime Minister Narendra Modi effectively inaugurated the inaugural Vande Bharat Express train’s trip from Assam in a landmark event for Assam and the Northeast region. The railway will connect Guwahati and New Jalpaiguri, reducing travel time by an astonishing hour compared to the route’s current quickest train.
The Vande Bharat Express is outfitted with cutting-edge facilities, allowing it to provide passengers with both speed and luxury. With its launch, the region’s tourism industry is expected to receive a significant boost, attracting more visitors to explore the mesmerizing landscapes of Assam and its neighbouring states.
In addition to the train launch, the Prime Minister inaugurated a newly-electrified section of the railway route, enabling pollution-free transportation, higher speeds, and reduced travel time. This electrified section will also facilitate train services entering Meghalaya, fostering improved connectivity within the region.
In addition, a newly constructed shed for Diesel-Electric Multiple Units (DEMU) and Mainline-Electric Multiple Units (MEMU) was launched in Lumding in the Hojai district of Assam. This facility will improve the operating and maintenance viability of DEMU rakes in the region, resulting in improved passenger comforts.
